Data Sources

• U.S. prices: U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) regular gasoline table from the weekly report: https://www.eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/
• Canada prices: Canadian fuel report used by the app for province/territory averages: https://www.njc-cnm.gc.ca/s3/d938/en
• FX rate: CAD-to-USD conversion from Frankfurter: https://api.exchangerate.host/latest?base=CAD&symbols=USD

Methodology

• U.S. source values are read as USD per gallon.
• Canadian source values are read as CAD per litre.
• Unit conversion uses 1 U.S. gallon = 3.785411784 litres.
• Cross-currency conversion uses the current app FX rate snapshot (CAD to USD) for all rows in a run.
• Regional comparison is shown in equivalent units so differences are apples-to-apples.

Important Context

• Sources update on different schedules (for example, weekly vs rolling report windows), so timestamps may not align perfectly.
• Values are regional averages and may differ from local station prices, taxes, and retail timing.
